About rehabilitation-led Pilates

What is rehabilitation-led Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise system that focuses on controlled movement, posture, breathing and strength. At Perfect Balance, Pilates is delivered through a rehabilitation-led lens, supporting people who need safe, structured progression rather than generic exercise.

Sessions focus on improving how the body moves as a whole, building stability, mobility and coordination without unnecessary strain. This makes Pilates particularly effective for people recovering from injury, managing persistent pain, or returning to activity after time away. All sessions are mat-based and may include small equipment such as resistance bands or gym balls. Exercises are adapted to individual needs and ability.

How rehabilitation & Pilates help

Rehabilitation-led Pilates may support:

  • Improved posture, balance and movement control

  • Core strength and joint stability

  • Recovery from back pain or joint pain

  • Safe strengthening of weaker or sensitive areas

  • Reduced tension and improved body awareness

  • Confidence returning to everyday movement or exercise

Pilates is often used alongside physiotherapy, osteopathy or rehabilitation to help maintain progress and reduce the risk of symptoms returning.

Your first session

Your first appointment includes an individual assessment to understand your movement, goals and any current limitations. You’ll be introduced to key principles such as breathing, alignment and controlled movement. Based on this, your instructor will recommend the most appropriate format, one-to-one or small group.

Ongoing sessions

Sessions follow a progressive approach, focusing on quality of movement rather than speed or intensity. Progression is guided carefully, with exercises adapted as strength and confidence improve. Pilates can be used short-term as part of rehabilitation or longer-term to support ongoing movement health.
