How k-Laser Therapy changed Jane Brown’s Life
When Jane Brown (not her real name) was a child, she suffered from sharp stabbing pains in her wrists, ankles, and knees. She had very little strength and often her hands needed to be bandaged. The doctors said that she was suffering from growing pains, and they would go away by the time she was sixteen. That much anticipated time eventually came, but to here great dismay the pains didn’t go away. In fact, if anything they grew worse and she despaired that she would never be without them.
A normal life?
She was still able to enjoy the trappings of normal life; she took a job, married, and had children, though holding her baby was a big problem. The doctors didn’t give up on trying to diagnose her condition, but despite various blood tests, x-rays, and brain scans, no problems were found. She had to spend half the year on crutches and she regularly took on painkillers and sleeping pills.
40 years of pain at last a diagnosis
After 40 years of pain, on the recommendation of a friend she finally visited another specialist who told her that she had all the classic symptoms of fibromyalgia. In many ways the diagnosis was a relief; at least she stopped thinking that she was a hypochondriac.
Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that can cause pains that are felt throughout the body. Sufferers can also experience fatigue, stiffness, memory problems, and headaches. While nobody knows exactly how the condition arises, it is thought to be related to chemical processes within the brain and spinal cord. Sometimes fibromyalgia can be triggered by an emotional experience or physical trauma, though in some cases it is thought to be genetic.
Painkillers and antidepressants
There is no conventional cure for fibromyalgia. Often painkillers and antidepressants are prescribed, in particular, amitriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants along with SNRIs and SSRIs, but these can have various unpleasant side effects. Other drugs such as sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, and anticonvulsants can help, but Jane had already been through them all. Following her diagnosis, the was given lignocaine infusions which while helping ease the pain left her confined to her bed for several hours following treatment.
K-laser therapy a pioneering treatment
Visiting the doctor again in 2013 she was told of a pioneering new treatment for chronic pain that involved lasers, and she decided to give it a go. The treatment is known as K-Laser therapy, and it is much more powerful than normal medical lasers. As well as being an effective treatment for fibromyalgia, it is also used to treat conditions such as carpal; tunnel syndrome, repetitive strain injuries, knee pain, and back and shoulder pain.
During treatment, a class 4 K-Laser is directed to the area that is causing problems. It works by encouraging and accelerating the body’s natural healing processes. Circulation is improved; inflammation is reduced, and new cell growth is encouraged. For most people, there are no side effects and there is little or no sensation. Treatments last for a few minutes and most people find an improvement after one to fifteen treatments.
I actually feel like a new person?
Jane noticed a distinct improvement after just three treatments, and after ten treatments she was able to enjoy a holiday walking around Rome without feeling any pain at all. Now she goes to the gym, takes long walks, enjoys foreign holidays, and pick up and play with her grandchildren. Comparing how she feels now with how she used to feel, she said - I actually feel like a new person. Now I feel I can cope with anything.
